Dumbledore is "niet expliciet gay" in nieuwe ‘Fantastic Beasts'

De fans van de 'Harry Potter'-saga en de 'Fantastic Beasts'-trilogie zijn niet blij. De reden? In de nieuwste film over deze magische toverwereld zal de homoseksualiteit van Dumbledore niet expliciet getoond worden. Dat heeft regisseur David Yates bekendgemaakt.

De onthulling van Yates komt bij vele fans van de toverwereld aan als een grote verrassing. Eerder had schrijfster J. K. Rowling immers onthuld dat het personage homo was én tijdens zijn jeugd verliefd was op Gellert Grindelwald, die later een slechterik bleek te zijn.

"Dit is een gemiste kans", zo klinkt de algemene respons. "Honden met drie hoofden en een onzichtbaarheidsmantel zijn oké, maar een homo niet? We leven toch in de 20e eeuw?", reageert nog iemand anders fel.

Lol. There are actually fans using the "being openly gay wouldn't make sense for the time period" argument re: Dumbledore. You can accept three headed dogs, invisibility cloaks, and Aberforth's "affinity" for goats, but not an openly gay dude in the 20th century?

De nieuwe ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' komt in november dit jaar in de cinemazalen. Jude Law zal de rol van de jonge Dumbledore vertolken.
